Frank Abschlag has been working since 1993 in coatings and related industries. He held several positions in R&D and management and developed a deep knowledge in wood coatings, inks, fiber reinforced plastics and automotive application. He has an engineer degree from the University of Applied Sciences Aachen. Before joining Elementis in 2014 Frank has been working in France, Germany and Belgium for DynamitNobel (Group Leader Surface Technologies), University of Kaiserslautern (Research engineer reinforced organo panel sheets), AkzoNobel (Lab manager wood coatings) and Sarex AG (Lab Manager printing inks). Since 2014 Frank is working in his current position as “Senior Technical Service Manager” being responsible for the Elementis coatings additives in the EMEA region.
MS Global AG / Covestro
Srba Tasic has worked at Covestro, business unit Coatings, Adhesives and Specialties (CAS) for 13 years, the last 8 years as a technical marketing manager for the region of Central and South-Eastern Europe.
He has more than 20 years’ experience across all areas of resins and coatings production, as well as sales and marketing. Before Covestro, he was a senior research engineer in Duga, Paints and Varnishes company from Belgrade, where he spent over 7 years in different labs (resins synthesis department, wood coatings, car refinish coatings).
He holds MSc degree in polymer engineering from the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, Belgrade University.
Marc Cornick has been working in polymers and related industries since 1986. In this time he has been involved in various sectors, including resins, adhesives and coatings.
He has worked in various technical roles, including R&D, product management and technical service. He holds a bachelor level degree in Polymer Technology from Trowbridge College (UK) and an MSc in Polymer Chemistry from Manchester Victoria University (UK). Before joining Vencorex in 2012, Marc was working in the UK and Germany for Dynea Resins, as Application and Product Development Manager for engineering and automotive binders.
In 2012 he joined Vencorex and is currently working as Market Development Manager, responsible for technical support on Vencorex polyisocyanates in the central European region.
Alberdingk Boley GmbH
Sonja Göring works as an application engineer at Alberdingk Boley GmbH, Krefeld, Germany in the technical marketing for castor oil based polyols and vegetable oils. In her position as technical sales she gives support in case of technical requests as well as product and system developments.
Due to her former Job she is specialized in PU-foams as she was responsible for developing new Additives for the PU-foam industry, focusing first the slab stock and later the rigid foam market.
She began her career as a lab chemist in 2011 in the development of Superabsorbent Polymers.
I have worked 10 years for FP-Pigments in different roles. At the end of 2018 I started in my current position as an Account manager. I have now commercial and technical responsibilities around Europe and my technical background in FP-Pigments gives me good tools to work in co-operation with my customers.
I have been involved in developing the FP-Pigments reformulation protocols for coatings since 2009 and also been involved in new product development. I have also been the one working in co-operation at customer laboratories to help in the starting steps with our products.
BU Effect Pigments
Dr. Frank J. Maile studied chemistry at the university of Stuttgart followed by a PhD at the Research Center of Pigments & Paints (FPL e.V.) Stuttgart, Germany. In 1999 he joined the pigments division of Merck KGaA in Darmstadt where he held several positions. In 2011 he joined Schlenk Metallic Pigments GmbH in Roth, Germany.
Since 2019 he holds the position of a Global Technical Director BU Effect Pigments. Frank is visiting professor for innovation management at Pforzheim Business School. Since 2015 he is a member of the advisory board of the Color Science Symposium (Smithers).
Frank J. Maile
Fraunhofer Institute for Wood Research
Dr. Stefan Friebel obtained his PhD at University of Durham (Great Britain) on polymer science in 1995. In 1996 he joined the Fraunhofer Association. He was more than 10 years Head of the Polymer Synthesis group. Between 2013 and 2018 he was heading the department “Surface Technology” at WKI.
Since 2019 he is Senior Project Manager at WKI. His focal points of research activities are the synthesis of new raw materials for coating and adhesive resins and their polymerization. He emphasizes on the development of resins based on vegetable oils, sugars, lignins and biotechnologically produced building blocks. Stefan Friebel published more than 40 paper and gave more than 30 oral presentation to the polymer and coating science society. He was project coordinator in several national and international collaborative projects.
Ο Δρ. Ανδρέας Σαπαλίδης (Ερευνητής Γ), είναι απόφοιτος του τμήματος Τεχνολογίας Πετρελαίου του Τεχνολογικού Ιδρύματος Καβάλας. Το 2004 απέκτησε μεταπτυχιακό δίπλωμα ειδίκευσης από το πρόγραμμα «επιστήμη πολυμερών και εφαρμογές της» του τμήματος Χημείας του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών. Το 2009 υποστήριξε την διδακτορική του διατριβή στο ίδιο τμήμα. Είναι μέλος του εργαστηρίου υλικών και μεμβρανών για περιβαλλοντικούς διαχωρισμούς του Ινστιτούτου νανοεπιστήμης και νανοτεχνολογίας του ΕΚΕΦΕ «Δημοκριτος» από το 2001.
Τα ερευνητικά ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζονται στην ανάπτυξη νανοδομημένων και νανοσύνθετων υλικών, στον χαρακτηρισμό τους, καθώς και στην αξιολόγηση της απόδοσής τους σε περιβαλλοντικές και ενεργειακές εφαρμογές. Συγκεκριμένα η ερευνητική δραστηριότητα αφορά τα ακόλουθα: παρασκευή και χαρακτηρισμός προηγμένων νανοσύνθετων πολυμερικών υμενίων, ανάπτυξη και χαρακτηρισμός πορωδών υλικών με συνδυασμό ανεπτυγμένων τεχνικών για χρήση σε διεργασίες απορρύπανσης όπως δέσμευση CO2, SO2, βαρέων μετάλλων, κατάλυση κ.α., ανάπτυξη υβριδικών κεραμικών μεμβρανών για διαχωρισμούς αερίων και υγρών, ανάπτυξη υβριδικών οργανικών (π.χ. ενεργούς άνθρακες) και ανόργανων ροφητών (ζεόλιθοι, πηλοί) καθώς και ανάπτυξη πειραματικών διατάξεων για τη μελέτη των ανωτέρω ιδιοτήτων.
Είναι συγγραφέας 29 επιστημονικών δημοσιεύσεων, 1 κεφαλαίου σε βιβλίο και είναι κάτοχος 1 ευρωπαϊκού διπλώματος ευρεσιτεχνίας. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε περισσότερα από 15 ευρωπαϊκά και εθνικά ερευνητικά προγράμματα.

Kiriakidis George was born in Thessaloniki, Greece on April 4, 1950.
On Feb.1973 he was awarded the degree of BSc Physics/ Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
From 1973 to 1978 he followed graduate studies in UK and received a MSc in Automatic Control Systems for UMIST in 1975 and a PhD from the Elect. Eng. Dept. Salford University, UK in 1979.
Since 1981, he is with the Physics Dept. of the University of Crete, Greece, currently serving as an Associate Professor.
He was the founding member and first director of the Science and Technology Park of Crete (1993-97).
In 1996 he was awarded the degree of MBA from the Univ. of Surrey, UK.
In May 2014 he was appointed as Adjunct Professor at the MEA Dpt , CEMR West Virginia University, USA
He serves as elected E-MRS vice president since May, 2014.
From 1985-1991 he was the deputy director of the III-V Microelectronics Group, IESL Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas, (FORTH), Crete, Greece. On 1992 he established and is still heads the TCM Group at IESL / FORTH. The current research interests of his group focus on the growth and study of the optical, electrical, structural and chemical properties of metal oxide thin films as potential materials for novel opto-electronic applications (gratings, TTFTs, waveguides, etc), solar cells, and chemical sensors as well as photocatalytic materials for clean air applications.
G.Kiriakidis has published more than 100 scientific papers in Refereed Journals and participated in over 80 National and International Conferences (including 40 as invited speaker) He was the chairperson for the TCO2006, TCO2008, TCM2010, TCM2012 and TCM2014 conferences and the Editor and co-author in 7 Scientific Reports and three proceedings books.
EC-Joint Research Centre
Dr. Dimitrios Kotzias (Ph.D in chemistry) was Head (retired) of the Chemical Assessment and Testing Unit at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC)- Institute for Health and Consumer Protection (IHCP). His research activities focused on trace analysis of organic compounds in complex matrices, on photochemical oxidants, on indoor air quality and exposure assessment to chemicals and chemical mixtures. Dr. Kotzias has coordinated/participated of/to several EU funded research projects.
Dr. Kotzias is author or co-author of more than 250 papers.
Ο Μανώλης Γκαγκαουδάκης γεννήθηκε το 1975 στην Αθήνα. Είναι πτυχιούχος Φυσικής, κάτοχος Μεταπτυχιακού Διπλώματος Ειδίκευσης στην «Μικροηλεκτρονική-Οπτοηλεκτρονική» καθώς και Διδακτορικού Διπλώματος του τμήματος Φυσικής του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης. Η διδακτορική του διατριβή είχε τίτλο «Μελέτη θερμοχρωμικών υλικών χαμηλής θερμοκρασίας ανάπτυξης, με βάση το διοξείδιο του Βαναδίου (VO2)» και πραγματοποιήθηκε στο Εργαστήριο Διαφανών και Αγώγιμων Υλικών και Διατάξεων, του Ινστιτούτου Ηλεκτρονικής Δομής και Λέιζερ του Ιδρύματος Τεχνολογίας και Έρευνας.
Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εστιάζονται στην ανάπτυξη και μελέτη θερμοχρωμικών υλικών, καθώς και στη σύνθεση και μελέτη υλικών για αισθητήρες αερίων. Επιπλέον, έχει εργασθεί ως εργαστηριακός συνεργάτης στο ΤΕΙ Κρήτης. Τέλος, έχει 24 δημοσιεύσεις σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά με κριτές και πάνω από 40 ανακοινώσεις σε εθνικά και διεθνή συνέδρια.
Ilias Papailias successfully completed his studies in Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens in 2008. His thesis entitled “Evaluation of the antioxidant activity of phenolic derivatives by fluorescence” was held at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of NCSR “Demokritos”.
This was followed by the fulfillment of his military service obligations, where he gained experience as a chemist. From 2011 to 2014 he worked in the private sector in areas of production and quality control.
Since summer 2014, he is a member of Nanofunctional and Nanocomposite Materials Laboratory at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of NCSR “Demokritos”. He has worked in various projects such as “PhotoTiGRA” and “IKYDA 2015”.
Since summer 2018 he works on the “2D Photostructure” project titled “2D Photocatalytic Heterostructures for Air Pollutant Oxidation”. At the same time, he works on his PhD which is based on new photocatalytic nanocomposite materials.
