The Association of Greek Chemists
The Association of Greek Chemists (AGC ή EEX) is a legal entity governed by public law (νομικό πρόσωπο δημοσίου δικαίου) under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Technology. EEX’s headquarters is located in Athens.
The purpose of EEX is the promotion of the science of chemistry in industry, technology, education, research and control, as well as its exploitation for the self-sustaining economic, social and cultural development of the country.
EEX is a consultant to the State and has mostly the following responsibilities:
a) It studies on its own initiative or after an assignment or request, independently or in collaboration with other social or scientific bodies, any matter relating to chemistry and its applications and formulates opinions on the relevant legislation.
b) It provides all possible support for the application of chemistry’s scientific data for the exploitation of the country’s resources.
c) It advises, at the request of the government services in charge or other public sector bodies or trade unions, on any matter of chemical control, chemical research and technology, chemical education and organization of the state’s chemical services.
d) It contributes to the protection of the health of the society, the protection of the natural environment and the reassurance of healthy and safe working conditions.
e) It issues informative and scientific publications and other special publications and takes care of the information of the public opinion with announcements, publications or in any other appropriate way on any matter of its jurisdiction, popularizing and helping in the further understanding of the relevant issues and problems.
f) It participates in international organizations of chemistry or other relevant organizations, it develops relations with similar organizations from other countries and other scientific and professional organizations from inland and abroad and organizes conferences, exhibitions and other events to promote its purpose.
g) It collects statistical data on matters of its jurisdiction, it creates and enriches chemical libraries, information and documentation centers and it takes care for the scientific progress, information, training and continuing education of members and for the promotion and protection of their authority and the projection of their social role.
h) It ensures the protection of the chemical profession and especially the protection of professional, economic, social and insurance interests of its members.
i) It studies new forms of professional organization and work of its members and exercises disciplinary authority on them.
EEX aims at:
- the development of scientific as well as professional consciousness among its members,
- the development and promotion of cooperation among its members.
